Cable sensor in Water Leak Detection

Sensor cables are one of the most critical components of any leak detection system. As the name suggests, they are a cable that is able to detect even a minor water leak in the industrial, commercial or residential building. They are used to pinpoint the location of any water leak.

The length of our standard cable sensor varies from 1 m to 100 m, as per the client’s requirement. Depending on the need of our client, we can supply any length. Moreover, every cable has mating connectors at every end. This ensures that if more area has to be covered, any number of cables can be connected to expand the network.

How does Cable sensor work?

Water leak sensor cable is used in the places where the area is large, and the leakage can be anywhere in the entire area. Let’s understand the construction and working of a cable sensor in detail.

Construction:

Our water leak detection cable sensor’s outer coating is made up of Low Smoke Zero Halogen material. This means in case of a fire accident; the sensor cable will emit minimal smoke and zero Halogen. This ensures the safety of the fire-fighters and protects them suffocation.

Inside this outer covering, two conductive plates run across the length of cable. A small distance between them separates these two plates.

Operation:

Our sensor cable works on the simple law of conductivity. As you are aware, water is a conductive liquid. It means electricity can pass through it.

As mentioned above, the sensor cable has two conductive plates that are separated by a small distance.

This cable is spread along the whole area where the water leak detection has to be done. A small amount of Electric current from two opposite pole continually flows through the plates in the cable. When the leaked water touches the sensor cable and comes between the two conductive plates, a short circuit occurs.

Once the circuit is shorted, the detection panel raises the alarm about the water leak. Moreover, by applying various laws of electricity detection panel pinpoints the exact location of the water leak.

The detection panel can be connected to any notification method like a speaker, LCD screen or SMS module as per the client’s need.

Advantages of Cable sensor

Cable sensors have multiple benefits over probe and point sensor, let’s take a look at them :

How to calculate the required cable length?

Before installing our water leak detection system, it is vital to calculate the total length of the cable required. Please follow the below-mentioned steps for the calculation:

Step1:

Measure the dimensions of the area where you want to install the cable sensor.

Make sure you take the precise measurement as any wrong measurement will lead to delay in the process as you will need extra cable, and the process will be lengthy.

Step2:

If you want to install the cable from the offset the wall, measure the distance of the offset from the wall.

The other option is, if you want to install the cable back and forth, you can do so by measuring the distance between each cable length. This total length is known as Total Feet or Total Meter.

Step 3:

Measure the distance that you want to keep between j-pins and once it is done, calculate the number of necessary J-pins.

Step 4:

Also, measure the distance between the cable identification tag and once it is done, calculate the total number of identification tags that will be required.

Once done, you are all set with the total length of cable; you can reach us for placing an order.

FAQs about leak sensor cable:

What is a water leak sensor?

A water leak detector sensor is a device that can detect the presence of water when water touches it. And then, it generates an alarm or singles to the central panel to notify the user. There are point, probe, and cable sensors are available in the market.

How does the water leak detection cable work?

It works on the principle of conductivity. Inside the outer covering of a leak sensor cable, two conductive plates twist together with space. As we all aware, water is a good conductor of electricity. Thus, when leaked water touched to cable, it shorts both the sensor cable’s conductive plats. As a result, it can generate a single to indicate a water leak.

What are the advantages of a cable water leak sensor?

  1. It helps to increase the probability of leak detection.
  2. When used with a distance read panel, it helps to notify the exact location of the water leak.
  3. Rope leak sensors are durable and easy to install.
  4. It is flexible. Thus, easy to place around any place.
  5. It is easy to dismantle, relocate, and reconnect.

How much water leak cable costs?

Water leak cable is available in regular lengths of five, ten, and twenty meters long. Hence, its cost varies from USD 120 to USD 380.

Which are the best cable leak detector sensor?

  1. RLE made SC cable.
  2. FG-ECS water leak rope.
  3. Aqualeak sensor cable.
  4. Liebert® LT500Y Leak Detection Cable

Where do you use a water leak detector?

It is beneficial in any leak-prone areas to reduce financial losses. It is often recommended to place in the server room, data centers, pump rooms, warehouses, and buildings.
